Friday July 15th, 2015: Sydney Round 2

So a couple days ago I got a message from an old friend from high school on Facebook saying that he was studying abroad in Newcastle, Australia (Newcastle is about an hour and a half north of Sydney). We ended up meeting in Sydney and exploring the city together.

He is currently staying with family friends and they recommended that we should try a place called Henry's Cafe de Wheels because it is Australian food. So we went and got meat pies with mushy peas, mashed potatoes, and gravy on top. We sat by the bay and enjoyed our pies!

After lunch we walked around the bay back towards Circular Quay (The main section of Sydney) and snapped a few photos along the way.

Tanner wanted to take a ferry somewhere and I was up to do anything so we asked a guy where we should go and he recommended Watson's Bay and Manly Bay. So we hopped on a ferry and headed towards Watson's Bay.

View from the Ferry

Tanner and I headed towards Watson's Bay.

Upon getting off the ferry we both immediately loved Waton's Bay. It's like a little seaside town with dinghys lining the beach and a large park behind the bay.

We headed up to the top of the park and ran across this really pretty bird.

After admiring the bird we walked to the top of the park and had a beautiful lookout to the ocean.

We hiked our way around and found multiple lookouts and bays.

After hiking around Watson's Bay we boarded the ferry and headed back into Circular Quay.

This is a time lapse I took and I thought it was going to be longer than this....but oh well I think it's still pretty cool.

After we got off of the ferry we walked through a little festival celebrating the European Union or something? I am not sure what it was but there were tents with food vendors selling various European foods. We walked through it only eating the free samples :).

We headed up towards the Harbor Bridge and walked half way took a few photos and headed down to Pancakes on the Rocks for dinner. Pancakes on the Rocks wasn't too great but we went because Tanner's family friends gave him a buy one meal get one free coupon. When we left there was actually a big line so I think they are famous for their decadent pancakes, but we ordered pizza because we wanted actual food rather than sugar.

After dinner we found a rooftop bar and we were lucky enough to get seats that look right over the harbor.
So this was our view as we sat and had a beer. We were extremely lucky.

While at the bar we talked to a really nice Australian couple for quite some time. We talked about Australia and what we should do and many more topics. They actually invited us up to their house up on the Sunshine Coast so maybe we will venture up there while we are here!

After having the one beer we wanted to try another bar but we felt extremely under dressed for every pub that we came across. Men were dressed up in suits and women were dressed in skirts and since everyone is attractive down here (but seriously) we didn't feel like we were dressed appropriately for places so we decided to hit up a doughnut place that Tanner went to the day before. We walked across town to the only one open right by the train station.

This is the doughnut we split. It's a doughnut with a dark chocolate glaze, waffle cone pieces, and a Kit-Kat on top.

We split the doughnut and raced to the train station to catch our trains and headed home.

Overall it was a very fun and spontaneous day. We still have more that we want to explore so we will probably meet up sometime again and explore some more of Sydney or another part of Australia!

I forgot to upload these! These are some photos we took up on the bridge!
