July 30th - August 2nd

So this past week has been busy and not at the same time, with school just I am trying to figure out what my workload looks like.  The school system down here is a little different than what us Americans are used to.

Classes work by having a lecture and tutorial per class. The lecture has one lecturer and everyone enrolled in the course comes to the lecture hall (or streams it online from home) and then tutorials are mandatory and held in smaller rooms. Tutorials only have about 20-25 people in them and you discuss the lecture and ask questions that you have. The teachers who run the lectures are called Tutors. Two of my tutorials that I have been to the Tutors are Doctorate students.

It's weird because the classes seem to have a system of hierarchy or something along those lines. There is a Course Administrator who can be the lecturer and then there's a Lecturer and multiple Tutors.

So this past weekend nothing special happened really. Weerona was really quiet because some people went to Sydney and some international students went on a surfing trip. I stayed back and I went for a hike in the bush with Ben and Bridgette. It was pretty fun because we went off the trail and got lost and ended up in an area that was restricted. As we made our way out of the bush we realized just how far we were from our car and started walking back on the road. We started to joke around about hitchhiking not thinking about what if someone actually pulled over...then someone did (Nerdy Sidenote: Since there were three of us I felt like the Hitchhiking Ghosts from Haunted Mansion). It ended up being a really nice young couple who just had lunch with the husband's parents. They were nice enough to drive us back to our car (which ended up being pretty far distance from where we were).

Later that night some guys invited me out to go see The Legend of Tarzan, which was a pretty bad movie, but it was fun to go out. At the movies one of the guys had me try some bread with frosting on top. It sounds weird but it was actually a good snack. To describe it, I would say it was about the size of a sandwich roll but the bread was sweeter with frosting on top.

Nothing much happened on Sunday....Almost everyday of the week Weerona has some sort of physical activity/class you can go to like TRX, Yoga, or Ultimate Frisbee. On Sundays people go out and play soccer, so I played and gave it my best even though I am not an avid soccer player by any means.

So nothing really to report, but I am enjoying my time down here. I have been meeting a lot of cool people and learning quite a bit. It is funny though because in class I don't speaking up because I become a little self-conscious of my accent which is something I have never worried about before.

P.S. On my last post with videos, let me know if you cannot see them if there ever is a video that I post that you can't see and I will try to upload it again.
